Match Reports:

U16 Premier 2a Hurling League.

Fr. O’Neills 4:12 v Kiltha Og 2:06.

This was the opening round of this U16 Hurling League played in Aghavine on Monday

night last against local rivals Kiltha Og. Kiltha og started the brighter with 1:02 in the first

10 minutes with O’Neills scoring three points in this period. Peter Hassett operating at centre

forward got a fine goal after twenty minutes and a further goal from Peter before half

time put us in at the break leading 2:03 to 1:04.

Kiltha Og got the opening score of the second half but O’Neills with points from Darragh

Higgins, Conor Lee  and Brian Kenneally put us four points ahead. John Millerick with a goal

from a long range free put us into a comprehensive lead. Jake Shine with a goal and a

point from Tom Wall gave us a comfortable victory at the final whistle.

We had a full panel to pick for this game with all the Subs. getting a run. This is a tough

League grouping with the likes of Na piarsaigh, Mallow and Newcestown coming up.

Fe 11 Fr. O’Neills v Kilshannig

Our U11s made the long trip to Glantane to take on Kilshannig in their first hurling match of the season. A combination of the long journey and wintry showers resulted in our lads getting off to a poor start, and Kilshannig, helped by a strong breeze were well ahead by the end of the first quarter. From the second quarter onwards, both sides were evenly matched with Ronan Lowney giving a fine display at centre back. Ronan McCarthy was a constant torment to the Kilshannig defence and on another day we may have benefited more from the great opportunities created between Ronan and Louie Fitzpatrick. Despite fine displays from Lui Phibbs and Daniel Litvinovas, we were unable to reduce Kilshannig’s early lead and our hosts ran out winners in the end. Overall, a good team performance but with a few things to work on in training. Thanks to all that travelled to cheer us on. Team were as follows: Jude Buckley, Ronan Lowney (captain), Daniel Litvinovas, Rory O’Neill, Cillian Lowney, Patrick Millerick, Eoin McGuckian, Lui Phibbs, Louie Fitzpatrick and Ronan McCarthy.

Fe 12 Fr. O’Neills v Carrignavar

A glorious sunny Sunday morning in Ahavine was the venue for our U12s opening game against Carrignabhfear. O’Neills were on top from the start with a great midfield display from Conor O’Leary throughout the game. The first half created few scoring chances with both defences on top, with Mark O’Neill and Ronan Lowney marshalling their teammates around them to limit the visitors to a single point at half time to our three points. O’Neills took total control of the game in the second half with great defensive displays by Bryan O’Mahony and Eoin McGuckian.  Fr. O’Neills rounded off a fine team performance with a great goal from TJ Hurley and some fine points from James O’Brien. We finished worthy winners in the end with a score line of 1-06 to 0-01. Team as follows: Patrick Millerick, Ronan Lowney, Bryan O’Mahony, Cormac O’Neill, Cillian Lowney, Mark O’Neill, Eoin McGuckian, Conor O’Leary, Jack Finn, James O’Brien, Matthew Smiddy, Louie Fitzpatrick, TJ Hurley and Rory O’Neill. Thanks to all who came out to support the lads.
