Jnr.B Hurling Championship 1st.rnd. 2012-09-18 04:33:00

Fr.O Neills 1:13 v Watergrasshill 2:13

We took on Watergrasshill in the 1st.rnd.of the B grade Hurling C/ship.on Weds.the 12th in Carrigtwohill,we entered the game on the back of an unbeaten league campaign so our form wasn't an issue as we thought,we played with the wind and the sun to our backs so a good 1st.half performance was essential to our hopes of victory. We were first to score with a pt.from Mark Hayes the Hills.reply was instant with a pt.soon followed by a well taken goal we replied with 2 well taken pts.of our own from Ger.Holland and Shane Harrington this was answered by a pt.from the Hill.Ger.Holland got another good pt.from midfield, the Hill put even more daylight between them and us with a 2nd goal,John O Driscoll scored a fine goal from a well taken close in free to cancel out the Hills.one but back came the Hill.again with 2 more pts.we then put 3 good pts.on the board courtesy of Fergal Duffy,Ger.Holland and John O Driscoll again, the Hill.finished the scoring for the 1st.half with another point of their own to leave us behind on a scoreline of 2:05 to 1:07,if we were to have any hope of sucess we were going to have to up our performance in the 2nd.half having played well below our potential in the 1st.half.We started the 2nd half on a positive note firing over the 1st.2 pts.from Mark Hayes and a John O Driscoll free to take the lead back came the with a pt.to level matters again we got our noses in front with another John O Driscoll free only for the Hill.to level it again.

We were playing much better at this stage and duly fired over the next 2 pts.again a free from John and a good score from sub.Aaron McEvoy to go 2 pts.up once more but our opponents had other ideas when they reeled off 3 good pts.of their own to take the lead once more we leveled again through Mark Hayes and had a fantastic opportunity to put the game to bed when a ball broke loose in the Hills.square with their Keeper out of position but unfortunately we wern't able to avail of this chance and the Hill.went down the field and fired over a good pt.from play to win the game on the above scoreline. To say we were disapointed in our display would be an understatement but credit to the Hill.for a very good workman like performance,we now have to take the scenic route to progress in this years C/ship.up next for us are our close neighbours Rsl.Rovers.
