Intermediate Hurling C/ship.4th rnd. 2012-08-12 15:51:00

Fr.O Neills 2:16 v Eire Og 1:15

We got back into C/ship.action on Sat.evening in Riverstown against Eire Og in the 4th rnd.having played the 1st.rnd 10 weeks previous on the 3rd.of June. With such a big gap between both C/ship.games one would be worried that rustiness might be an issue with the lads but no this was not the case as we took the game to our opponents right from the throw in,Podge Butler opened our scoring with a well taken pt.which was quickly followed by a another pt.from a Ger.O Leary free,in a great passage of play we were rewarded with a goal which was finished to the net by Ger.this was quickly followed by 2 more good pts.courtesy of Podge and Luke Swayne so with 10 mins.on the Clock we found ourselves leading on a scoreline of 1:04 to 0:00.

Eire Og started to get more into the game and they duly reeled off the next 4 pts.with out reply,Ger O Leary fired over 2 more pts.from frees with Eire Og replying with a pt.of their own,Ger.with another pt.from play stretched our lead again but credit Eire Og once more when they fired over 3 more pts.with out reply.Eddie Holland then chiped in with a fine pt.again Eire Og replied with a pt.but then on the stroke of half time when Luke found himself all alone on the edge of the square and catching a great ball from a long delivery from substitute William Joyce he duly turned and buried it in the back of the net to see us leading at half time on a scoreline of 2:08 to 0:09.Whatever was said in the Eire Og dressing room during the break it had the desired effect as they came storming back at us scoring a well taken goal shortly after the throw in,we replied with a well taken pt.from the middle of the field by William their reply was swift with another pt.and we replied to this with a well taken Ger.O Leary pt.Eire Og were staring to pile on the pressure at this stage and fired over 3 unanswered pts.to tie the scores at 2:10 to 1:13 with 15 mins.gone in the half, then came a huge moment in the game when they were awared a dubious enough penalty but cometh the hour cometh the man with our net miner Paul Colbert bringing off a great save with the ball being cleared to safety this reignited our challenge and Eddie,Ger.with 2,1 from a free and Eoin Conway duly put us back in the driving seat with 4 very good pts.Eire Og replied with 2 pts.of their own but we closed out the game with 2 more excellently taken pts from Eoin and Willaim to see us wining on the above scoreline. This was as tough and as physical an hours Hurling as you will get at this level but credit must go to our trainer Tony Coyne and selectors Maurice Conway and Noel O Driscoll for having the panel in the excellent physical condition that they are in,up against a strong mobile set of forwards our defence coped superbly with everything that was thrown at them and overall this was a very good performance from all the lads.
