Fr.O Neills 1:13 v Glenville 1:06

We carried our current impressive league form into our championship 1st.rnd.against Glenville in Dungourney on Sunday.Starting the game minus a couple of our more experienced lads meant C/ship debuts for some of our younger brigade and true to form to a man they didn't disapoint, after a bright opening in which we had the upper hand in possesion it took until the 6th min.for us to register our first score of the game courtesy of a point from Brian McCarthy this was followed a min.later by a peach of a point from Liam O Driscoll, continuing to control proceedings in most quarters of the field particularly in defence it was not long before Rob.Cullinane and Liam O Driscoll again added 2 more points to give us a good foot hold in the game with 18 mins.gone.Good inter play by Glenville led to them creating an overlap going forward and with our defence back tracking it led to their attacker being taken down in the small square, they duly dispatched the resultant penalty to the back of our net and soon followed up with a point to level matters with 21 mins.gone.We got our noses in front once more on 24 mins.with a good point from Rob.Cullinane and would have added to that score but for some wayward shooting in front of goals,Glenville were to score a good point of their own to leave the scores level at half time.

We took the game to Glenville from the word go in the 2nd.half and were duly rewarded with a great goal scored by Brian McCarthy after 3 mins.of play,Brian added to this 2 mins.later with a fine point and when Darragh Sexton and Shane Harrington put 2 more points on the board it put us in a commanding position after 10 mins.of play in the 2nd.half.But credit Glenville for not throwing in the towel and in a 4 min.spell reduced our lead with 3 well taken points of their own with 14 mins.gone in the 2nd.half.We were starting to dominate matters around the middle of the field which meant our forwards were geting more posession as a result and in doing so were fouled going forward,Brian McCarthy duly slotted over 2 great free's on the 16th and 18th min.mark to open up a 5 point gap at this stage,Glenville were to score another point after 21 mins.which was to be their last of the game, our lads superior fitness was begining to take its toll on the overworked Glenville defence at this stage and when Shane Harrington on 26 mins.and Brian McCarthy on the 27th and 30th mins.added 3 more points it brought proceedings to a close and had us ahead by 7 points at the final whistle. This was as good a Team performance as you could hope for which left the management more than pleased and as a result of this victory and the way the draw for the remaining rounds has panned out we are now sitting in the quarter final awaiting our opponents with this game due to be played the weekend of the 5th/6th of May.Credit also to Referee Mark Murphy on an excellent game.
