Aghada under lights was the venue for this first round game played on last Thursday. Ballinhassig opened the scoring with a free this was quickly responded to with a point from Eoin Dorgan. Exchanges were tight in the first half with both sets of backs on top. We went in at the break behind 6 points to 3. We needed a goal early in the second half to get back in to the game but Ballinhassig were in no mood and we found it hard to break their rearguard. Ballinhassig got a goal midway through the second half and they controlled proceedings until the final whistle. We got a late goal and a point to round off the scoring.William Abernethy had a fine game at cornerback Loic Noufang and Ciaran Cullinane cleared their lines on many occasions Dominic Barry and Adrian Leahy worked hard at midfield throughout but it was the Ballinhassig backline who kept our forwards at bay that made for the foundation of their victory.
