COUNTY U16 P2 HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

Fr.O’NEILLS 2-8 v INNISCARRA 1-10

Carrigtwohill was the venue for this quarter final tie where we had a

hard earned one point victory over a fancied Inniscarra side.  We got

a whirlwind start with two goals in the opening seven minutes.  Eoin

Dorgan was the first on the mark from a fine pass from Arthur Nganou.

This goal was quickly followed by a neat flick from Colin Sloane which

found the net.  Inniscarra followed with a couple ofpoints and a

penalty which led to their only goal in this game.  The teams went in

at the break O’Neills leading by one point 2-5 to 1-7.

The second half was a very tense affair with both teams finding it

hard to get scores.  Defences were on top and both teams only scoring

3 points each in this period.  Our backs, in fairness, were excellent

in this half.  Ciaran Cullinane, Clive Dunne and Dominic Barry in

particular, cutting out several attacks.  A one point victory at the

finish now gives us a crack at Blackrock in the County semi-final.

Having already been in a tight game against Sliabh Rua and Inniscarra,

we won’t be fearing any team at this stage.

COUNTY U16 P2 HURLING SEMI-FINAL

Blackrock 4-10 v Fr O'Neills 2-10

The semi final of this Premier 2 County semi final was played on

August bank holiday Monday last at Delaneys ground. The match was

played with the aid of a very strong wind in the first half and we

went in at the break with a six point lead.A feature of the first half

were the two goals from Arthur Nganou and some fine free taking from

William Abernethy, who scored eight points in total in this

game.Ciaran Cullinane hit the crossbar and the Blackrock keeper also

saved a penalty in the opening half.

With the strong wind in favour of Blackrock in the second half, they

got an early goal and further points in a short period to cut into our

lead. Blackrock then brought on three subs in a 20 minute period and

it seemed to strengthen them overall.Jason Hankard had a fine game in

goal and could do nothing about two further goals which gave Blackrock

a 4:10 to 2:9 .Ger Millerick , who had a great game throughtout at

centre back went for goal in the final period from a free only for the

sliotar to just go over the bar. Adrian Leahy at midfield worked

tirelessly throughout the game . The overall strength of the Blackrock

squad was to be a telling factor at the full time whistle.

Although we were disappointed, our lads had a very good campaign with

two fine victories against Sliabh Rua and Iniscarra.Credit to Phillip

,Brian,Billy and Sean for their hardwork all season with this group .A

special mention to parents and supporters for their attendance at

these games.
