Juvenile Club 2015 review 2015-12-29 20:11:00

The 2015 season in our Juvenile club has been a very busy one with plenty of action both on and off the field.  The following were the activities undertaken by the various age groups.

U15/16 TEAM
Our U16 hurlers competed in the Premier 2 hurling league and championship.  With a great win over Sliabh Rua and Inniscarra, we were narrowly pipped by Blackrock in the County semi-final.  Our U16 Footballers competed in the East A football league and championship.  Having beaten Canavee in the first round of the championship, we were beaten by Kilmurray in round two.

Our U15 Hurlers had a great year winning the County A Hurling Championship against Kilta Og in a memorable final played in Shanagarry.  Great credit to mentors Brian, Philip, Billy and Shane for looking after this team all season.

During the year we had a bus trip to Limerick for the Cork v Limerick Minor Hurling Championship game.  This group also had a team building night away in Knockadoon camp. To round off the year we went to Curraheen Park Greyhound stadium for a night at the dogs.
Some of this squad, namely Eoghan Dorgan, Olan Steele, Dominic Barry, Adrian Leahy, Ciarr O'Connor, Clive Dunne and Donal Griffin were part of the Imokilly U16 Hurling panel.  Ger Millerick was also part of this panel as well as being on the Cork U16 panel.

U13/14 TEAMS
Our training started in Redbarn in February under the guidance of Dick, Quintin, John, Garry, Mick and Gerry.  Our U14 footballers competed in the East A Football league and championship.  We had a great League campaign and having been runners up in our league grouping, we reached the County Final but unfortunately we were beaten by Macroom in the Final.  Canovee beat us in the championship in round one.  Our U14 hurlers competed in the Premier 2 Hurling league and championship.  Na Piarsaigh narrowly beat us in the Hurling championship and we were beaten by Eire Og in the plate competition.  This group had a very busy year also competing in the Pat Kelleher Na Piarsaigh Hurling tournament and the Cois Brid competition in Knockanore.

On the social side of things, this group went on an overnight trip to Knockadoon camp and the Minor Bus trip to the Gaelic grounds in Limerick.
Two of the squad, namely John Millerick and Peter Hassett were part of the Imokilly U14 Hurling panel.

U11/12 Teams

Our U12 panel who are very young competed in the East B Hurling and Football league. The Hurlers were runners up in the famed Willie Ryan Hurling tournament in Aghada. Later in the year they won the Ger Lewis U12 tournament in Cloyne. The Footballers also competed in the East U11 Football league.
In August the panel went to Simple Stadium Thurles for the Intercounty Blitz and they got a tour of the famous stadium. Bus trips included the Cork Limerick Minor game. Great work has been done by Colm, Alan, Bridie, Paudie ,Chris, Pat Flanagan and Pat O Sullivan with this group.

U10/9
Our U10/9 finished their season in mid October. There is no competitive league for this age group but many Blitz games are organised by the clubs in East Cork. The panel is quite big with two teams competing in many of the blitz games. It is very important that parents give plenty of support to this age group as the kids take these games quite seriously. They treat them as their mini All-Irelands, "how bad".Thanks to Johnny, Denis, Colin, Declan, Ray and Dave for their many hours of work throughout the season. On top of these Blitz games they also went on the Minor Hurling trip.

U8/7
Our up and coming stars had many training sessions and mini games throughout the summer. Coaching and encouragement is the key for this age group and Dave, Phillip, Tony, James and Mike certainly gave them plenty of this. The U7s are currently training in Ladysbridge hall on Tuesday nights.

Coaching
Great strides have been taken again this year with our club being recognized with a Gold star reward for great work being done at underage level. Nine adults and five transition students competed a level 1 training course in the last few weeks.

Cul Camp
Numbers were very high for this years Cul Camp where over 130 kids attended. Sean Crowley has given us great support for the structures for the camp. Dave Dorgan, Brian O Donoughue and Rachel Steele to the fore throughout the week. All the Coaches were home based, the list is too long to mention. Will they ever forget the barbeque .

Scor
Our Scor dancers reached the County Final this year winning the East Cork Final on route.

Secondary School Teams
Our Club more than any other year continues to supply players to the secondary school teams in Midleton and Youghal.

Kilcredan National School
We continue to have a vital link with the National School, Shane Donnelly being the games Coach in the school.

Dinner Dance/Raceday
At the end of January we had a very successful social with over 200 attending. On the 28th of December we are hosting our Annual raceday in Garryvoe Hotel from 4-7 pm.We hope to see you there!

As we look back on the year we thank you for our support and we wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas and a Happy New Year.
